From DreamWorks to ABFF: Ezekiel Ajeigbe Continues His Rise Across Film and Animation

Ezekiel Ajeigbe

Following his recent return to the American Black Film Festival’s landmark 30th Anniversary celebration, Ezekiel Ajeigbe is continuing to build momentum as one of the industry’s versatile rising talents, balancing acclaimed festival projects with a growing presence in animation.

For Ezekiel, the festival was another memorable chapter in a journey that has already included award-winning projects, major voice acting opportunities, and collaborations with creatives across film and television.

This is actually my third time coming to the festival and second time having a film in the festival,” Ezekiel shared. “Last year, I had two projects in the series category. One of them titled Sideline Story, which won Best Series. So to be back this year with the feature film that’s currently nominated for more awards is pretty exciting.”

His return to ABFF highlights a career that continues to evolve while earning recognition from audiences and industry professionals alike.

Making His Mark on the Festival Circuit

The latest feature film marks another exciting achievement for Ezekiel, who was drawn to the project from the moment he first heard about it from writer and friend Sam Buckner III.

After learning more about the story and auditioning, Ezekiel was offered the role of Derrick, a character whose personality immediately stood out to him.

“Based on the writing, Derrick seemed to always be the one to freak out in crazy situations,” Ezekiel explained. “So I thought it would be fun to play with as an actor.”

The experience became one of his most enjoyable creative collaborations, surrounded by a team committed to bringing an original story to life.

Reflecting on the finished project, Ezekiel expressed excitement for audiences to finally experience the film.

“I’m excited for them to see our original story, with all original music, and a phenomenal cast that brought this story to life,” he said. “It took a village, and we did it.”

As the film continues its festival journey, the project adds another notable credit to an already expanding résumé.

Bringing Mr. Shark to Life

Beyond the festival world, Ezekiel has also found success in animation through his role as Mr. Shark in DreamWorks’ The Bad Guys: The Series.

The opportunity represented a dream realized for an actor who has loved animation since childhood.

“It’s honestly a dream come true,” Ezekiel said. “I LOVE animation and have always wanted to do it since I was young.”

Joining a beloved franchise introduced him to a broad audience and allowed him to explore a different side of his creativity.

“Being able to voice Mr. Shark for DreamWorks The Bad Guys: The Series as my first animated series was beyond exhilarating.”

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the role was creating the character’s many disguises and unique vocal personalities throughout the series.

“I had a lot of fun creating different voices for Mr. Shark each time he put on a new disguise throughout the series.”

The response from viewers has been equally rewarding.

“Man, people absolutely LOVE the Bad Guys!” Ezekiel said. “I had no idea how many people watched the show until I started receiving messages from friends saying their nieces, nephews, sons, and daughters all love watching it. Seems like the adults enjoyed it just as much as their kids too.”

A Performer Who Continues to Expand His Reach

Whether he’s appearing in festival films or voicing animated fan favorites, Ezekiel approaches every role with dedication and a deep respect for the storytelling process.

While animation allows him to create freely in the recording booth, live-action work requires extensive preparation and character development.

“I’m dissecting the script, understanding where the character is in the story, and so much more,” Ezekiel explained. “I want to make sure I’m physically, emotionally, mentally, and sometimes even spiritually aligned with bringing the story to life through the lens of the character.”

That commitment to authenticity has become a defining characteristic of his work and continues to open doors across multiple areas of the entertainment industry.

With a celebrated return to the American Black Film Festival, a growing list of screen credits, and a standout role in one of DreamWorks’ popular animated series, Ezekiel Ajeigbe is proving himself to be a dynamic performer whose career continues to reach new heights.

As audiences discover his latest projects, one thing is clear: Ezekiel’s story is one of growth, creativity, and exciting opportunities still to come.
