EXCLUSIVE INSIDER WITH ACTOR DARRELL TERRELL & DIRECTOR DYLAN COLE BLACK
Darrell Terrell as Dr. Stafford
“In preparation for my role as Dr. Stafford in the film Nemesis, I dedicate a significant amount of time to conducting thorough research on the portrayal of therapists in other movies. Some of my favorite films in this genre include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Good Will Hunting, and Antwone Fisher. While each of these movies presents unique therapist characters, my aim is not to imitate them, but rather to study their demeanor and mannerisms. By doing so, I hope to deliver the most authentic and compelling portrayal of Dr. Stafford when it’s time to film.” Actor Darrell Terrell
Nemesis – The Directors Take
“I would describe Nemesis as heavily inspired by the character-driven psychological thrillers of Alfred Hitchcock, told through the lens of more modern-day horror.
It’s a bit of an anti-slasher, in a way, as it revolves around the lives affected by a masked killer who’s been missing for a decade. This film leans more heavily into the human aspect of what lies beneath the horror, and less on what’s commonly seen as “scary.”
Shooting in black & white, with hard, noir-inspired lighting, as well as relying on practical effects and intricate camerawork, the film will have an older style to its look and feeling, reminiscent of the 1950’s.
I also wanted to make something more dialogue-driven, allowing the story to be told through the words of its characters and their experiences. Where my last two films have leaned more heavily into straightforward horror, and one being a horror/comedy, I wanted to break out of the mold a bit and explore some of these darker and more human themes.” – Dylan Cole Black
