While audiences may know him from high-impact films like The Informer, Fortress, The Fearway, Wrong Place, and Becky, John is always carving out space for something that
continues to push the limit. In a recent interview, Actor John Hickman shares what he is looking for in his next role.
Chasing Depth: John Hickman Sets His Sights on Next Role
“I would love to play dramatic role that shows a lot more emotion,” John says honestly. In fact, it was one particular character that first started this change.
“Yeah, probably the one that’s had the most effect on me is Sheriff Bob Lily from the movie Gunner,” he says. “That turned out to be a way bigger project than I was expecting.”
And a key part of that transformation, he admits, came from one very specific collaboration.
“I really like working with Dimitri, the director of Gunner and Jiu Jitsu,” John says. “He has a gift, I don’t know what it is…but he gets a performance out of me that I can’t explain.”
John showed his appreciation for Dimitri Logothetis directorial skills and for who he is as an individual. “He’s a very interesting guy, and I like him as a person. I enjoy working with him a lot.”
That kind of synergy matters, especially for a film to be successful.
Though his past is rooted in roles that often require physical presence and commanding screen energy, John is clearly stepping into a space where strength is defined differently—where silence can be more powerful than a monologue, and vulnerability more moving than vengeance.
John shared what other roles he would love to play. “I would love to play dramatic role that shows a lot more emotion. I grew up in a society where men aren’t supposed to show their
emotions,” he says. “Acting lets me break out of that. I’ve done some emotional roles before, but this was different.”
With over 40+ film credits and starring in roles with Hollywood’s biggest actors, John truly has love for acting and continuing to show audiences raw emotion and action on screen!
